Square Fauna ‎– Meet The Fauna

Square Fauna ‎– Meet The Fauna

Square Fauna (the Russian duo of Dices and Flaty, whose combined resume boasts releases on 12th Isle, Soda Gong, and the criminally underrated Udacha label) mint seven geometric landscapes across Meet The Fauna, their debut for Edinburgh's Firecracker Recordings.

With hints of early Autechre and at times approaching something that could have landed on Warp's Artificial Intelligence comps, Meet The Fauna squiggles its way through two sides of vinyl with bursts of cerebral ambi-funk and more introspective moments of spectral diegesis. Highlights include the potent mixture of swimming percussion, rubbery lead and blocky bassline on "Natives" and the time-lapse flow of twinkling  sequences on "A Sense Of Meaning". Highly recommended as a new side to either artist's already diverse oeuvre, and a smart edition to Firecracker's bustling catalogue.
