Satomimagae - awa CD
This is the first album by Satomimagae, self released in 2012. Following the recent RVNG release of Hanazono we received copies directly from Satomi of this incredible work. Not every artist begins with a collection of songs that sketches out the crucial components of their artistic path, but that is what we have here.
Multi-layered vocals all in Japanese, curious sound debris from field recordings, film, and....? Accompanied by the Japanese voice actor Tomohiro Sakurai who plays acoustic and electric guitar and contributes backing vocals and trumpet player Yasushi Ishikawa, the pieces swim through dark waters. As if following a light bobbing along the shore, there are moments of levity that meet what sounds like a street during the rain on "Mouf", then calm horizons expand in a piece like "Tou." The clear and present melodies hold together all the divergent sonic entities - they are beautiful, grieving, celebratory and all the mark of an artist who, while on the way to finding their sound, crafts a standout debut. We welcome you to take a dip and hear where Satomi began.
