Lea Bertucci - A Visible Length of Light
Stimulate the brain and immerse yourself in A Visible Length of Light by Lea Bertucci. Recorded in 2020 between New York and a residency in Nebraska, this artful assemblage of sonic textures captures intricacies of the American landscape, in turn intimate and expansive.
Bertucci takes us to wide open spaces such as the California coast, a dead cornfield, and the Glacier Creek Reserve (the only existing remnant of the original prairie of Nebraska), then layers in tape recordings of sounds outside her NYC window at the height of the pandemic.
Field recordings alive with humming / hissing wind and gritty earthly elements enmesh at times gracefully and at other moments dissonantly with bass clarinet, alto sax, manipulated tape, organ and flute. An impressive example of microtonality exploration and catharsis through sound. Released on Bertucci's own label, Cibachrome Editions.
