Joseph Shabason - The Fellowship

Joseph Shabason - The Fellowship

$25.00

The autobiographical power of music must never be discounted, for however obscured the sounds may be, there is always a story buried within. In his latest LP The Fellowship, Toronto saxophonist Joseph Shabason illustrates a constellation of memory - drawing on his own upbringing within an Islamic and Jewish dual-faith household. Across eight tracks that range from ECM-influenced adult contemporary, to fourth world excursions, Shabason guides the listener through an explicit account of his life, communicated through pieces dedicated to specific periods within his coming of age - 0-13, 13-15, 15-19 - and the thematic bookends that lead to his transcendence and actualization.

Heads of previous MoMs such as Aqueduct Ensemble's Improvisations on an Apricot and Josiah Steinbrick's  Liquid / Devotion & Tongue Street Blue will feel perfectly at home with this piece, though Shabason's latest we recommend for everything and everyone.
