Eucalyptus – Kick It Till You Flip It
Delightful, breezy jazz composed by Toronto saxophonist Brodie West and realized by the euphonious octet Eucalyptus; whose performances at East-End Ethiopian resto-bar Hirut Cafe have earned them a following over the years. Recorded in 2017 at The Gas Station, Kick it til you Flip It is a warm and eclectic take on jazz forms, perpetually reimagining itself over the course of its five decidedly hybrid parts. Curious, melody-rich tropo-jazz bursts into experimental frenzy in a melange of fragmentary moods, from languorous to psych-tinged; masterfully agitated trumpet, clarinet and guitar and sax trilling thoughtfully. Pure imagination at play. Brought to us by Lorna Records.
