Ellen Arkbro - Chords
Stockholm’s Ellen Arkbro has engaged a deserved and attentive following with her minimal compositions; tuning and harmonic investigations; collaborative, durational works; and spatial / temporal listening experiences. She has released two works on Subtext (Chords being the second) as well as a collaborative effort with peers Kali Malone and Caterina Barbieri on XKatedral; and as part of the group Hästköttskandalen, which includes Malone and Elsa Bergman, Maria W. Horn and Marta Forsberg. Following For organ and brass, which focussed on intonation for renaissance organ, horn, trombone and microtonal tuba; Chords takes an even more reduced approach, a study of both instrumental and listener embodiment scored for organ and guitar. Combining acoustic instruments and subtle synthesis, Arkbro invites the listener to commune with the “timbral character” of these sound conduits; where slow, expansive combinations of tones fill every crevice of the space and imagination. The sounds are refined, beautiful in and of themselves; inviting you to fall into space with them.
