Buttechno - PSY X
For the latter half of this decade, Pavel Milyakov, through his own nom de plume or under his Buttechno moniker, has blown minds across the world of club music. Milyakov has managed to carve out a completely fresh approach to dance music at an unbelievable pace, maintaining a commitment to quality. Backed in part by his comrades in Moscow (Gost Zvuk, vtgnike, OL, Perila, et al) - this niche has been carved out beyond the traditional gatekeeping of larger European electronic music scenes. At this juncture, Milyakov's music has become a superlative all on its own, marked by a playful, at times humorous approach to music that is also profoundly sophisticated.
And now, here we are with the newest chapter in the Buttechno story - PSY X - a collaboration between the now-legendary Gost Zvuk and Milyakov's own Rassvet imprint. Looking beyond the club, the music contained within this record zones in on environmental pieces refracted through the inimitable Buttechno lens. Tunes like "dead land" and "2020 sequence" mark some of Milyakov's most contemplative pieces to date, though the frenetic, kinetic structure of his music still shines. As we llive through an epoch of empty clubs, stay-at-home orders, interior invesment, Buttechno has created a long player to accompany that emptiness.
