Benjamin Lew – Bamako Ou Ailleurs
Benjamin Lew returns to Stroom with four critical cuts of prime 1980s Belgian extraction. Opener “Bamako ou ailleurs,” one of three selections from the 1982 album Douzième Journée: La Verbe, la Parure, L’Amour (co-produced by Steven Brown aka Tuxedomoon and Crammed’s Marc Hollander aka Aksak Maboul), is a hypnotic, smooth industrial chug perfect for opening set mind unwinding. “Il, les quitta a l'aube” is more quaint and subdued with its fuzzy, metronomic song, before “Dans les jardins” lurches with ringing drums and melted melodics in mounting frenzy. To finish, “A la recherche de B.” is a formless and foreboding mist taken from Crammed’s first “Made To Measure” compilation.
