Patricia Brennan - Maquishti
The first solo debut by Mexican born, New York-based vibrphonist, marimbist, and composer Patricia Brennan. This 2xLP showcases years of developing extended techniques and improvisations, playing with other luminaries like Meredith Monk, Theo Bleckmann and Mary Halvorson. With an air of grace, the rich, thick, resonant tones produced by Patricia from the marimba and vibraphone are of a gorgeous sonority to help instill a sense of calm and wonder.
In her own words, "From bowing and bending pitch, to the use of extended effects via guitar pedals, this album reflects my vision for the vibraphone and the potential of all the possible ways it can be played. I wanted to not only incorporate all those techniques in the compositions but also wanted them to become part of my general improvisatory language.”
This potential can be heard across the 12 pieces on this album. Most are solely either instrument, but there are moments with electronic effects incorporated. One of the first releases of 2021 we are carrying, out on Valley of Search. We're very happy to have a few in store to share with you.
