D.K. - The Ancient Kingdom
Almost a year ago The Ancient Kingdom was released on cassette by Paris-based Dang-Khoa Chau. A highly sought-after reel of magnetic tape for the Good Morning Tape-philes, the vinyl reissue has landed in the shop to keep the mythology of the kingdom alive.
Since 2014, D.K. has propagated his unique style of polyrhythmic, deep bass percussive tracks. Writing with the inspiration of his Vietnamese heritage, The Ancient Kingdom has South Asian inspired sound; Gamelan sounds dapple 808 hits with what sounds like the call of a gibbon howling in the distance. Slinky wooden flute melodies propel "Five Wisdoms" along with metallic brush hits, and one of the most dance-floorable tracks on the album, "Assault From Java," breathes as an incredibly dynamic production not often found in a lot of dance music. For fans of Roska, Shackleton, and anyone who welcomes a ride to another realm.
