Gryphon Rue & Merche Blasco - North of the Future
Shimmering, spastic shadow riddles spew forth from Cintia, Merche Blasco's EMS Synthi AKS. Across the diabolical range, these bizarrely industrial sounding pieces both excite and terrify, and stoke interest at every turn of the knob or screech of the circuit.
Much of the sounds were performed on saws under the Cleft Ridge archway in Prospect Park, NYC, in the early mornings. The special architectural quality of the concrete arch made it an acoustically attractive meeting space during the pandemic lockdown of 2020. Gryphon Rue and Merche Blasco then collaged and edited those recordings and additional to create North of the Future, a cardinal direction we greet, without choice, from life's unavoidable relationship with time.
